About the Role: Physical Education Teacher

As an Uncommon Physical Education (PE) Teacher , you will ignite a passion for an active lifestyle in every student. Our PE instruction is dynamic, culturally-responsive, and designed to foster teamwork and healthy habits. You will be part of a community that values respect, hard work, and celebrates both academic and non-academic achievements.

Your Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Create a safe and interactive environment where students feel empowered to engage in physical activity.
  • Develop students' physical fitness through team-building activities, independent exercises, and structured sports and games.
  • Help students build healthy habits in both mindset and physical activity.
  • Teach an engaging and culturally responsive PE curriculum tailored to diverse learners.

2. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide the necessary resources for their child's learning needs.
  • Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • Participate in weekly, school-wide meetings to foster community and model our core values.
  • Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities preferred.
    • Expertise in high school education, physical education, sports science, kinesiology, or collegiate athletics.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required before employment begins. Certification is not necessary to apply, but passing state teacher certification tests will be required for employment in Massachusetts.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: The salary for this role ranges from $57,000 to $89,000, based on factors such as relevant teaching experience and educational qualifications. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $57,000.
