Job Description

Summary Fairfax Neonatal Associates (FNA) is seeking a Bilingual NICU Physician Liaison experienced with the clinical policies and procedures of FNA and Inova Children's Hospital. The NICU Physician Liaison will serve as a bilingual resource and bridge from the NICU patient family to FNA care providers who are involved in the treatment of NICU patients. The FNA NICU Physician Liaison's goal is to provide interpretation of information being communicated in order to enhance and improve the family's experience during their NICU stay. The FNA NICU Physician Liaison does not perform any medical or clinical procedures or services. We offer competitive pay, benefits, and generous paid time off for full-time employees. Duties/Responsibilities Support the FNA providers in the day-to-day resolution of concerns, as they arrive, that may impact the families' experience or the efficient flow of care, which may be beyond clinical boundaries. Meet with identified families at intervals, document encounters with parents and other involved in the resolution of issues within the expected timeframes. Interpret and provide education on FNA and hospital procedures and services to patients, their families, and visitors. This includes orientation and education materials designed to inform families of specific clinical diagnoses and NICU/FNA processes; introduce families and obtain consent forms relative to research studies involving FNA personnel. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care conferences, family meetings, complex case review, and throughput meetings to discuss specific patients and family needs/concerns. Monitor patients nearing discharge and assess patients and families for post discharge needs; inform families on discharge planning and preparation, including timely implementation of discharge plans. Act as intermediary to FNA providers, business office, and hospital staff, on behalf of patients and their families; collaborate to ensure effective resolutions. Direct inquiries and complaints to the appropriate personnel. Follow up on referred complaints to ensure resolution. In collaboration with hospital staff, complete discharge phone calls. Evaluate patient satisfaction and make suggestions for changes or improvements to Neonatology and or business office and processes. Regularly solicit feedback from parents and care partners on satisfaction with FNA providers. Provide NICU Physician Liaison service as a bridge between the NICU and other hospital services such as High-Risk Pregnancy. Assist the FNA providers by triaging perinatal consults and requests. Requirements Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of medical conditions associated with prematurity and NICU clinical procedures; ability to communicate complex clinical information to non-clinical customers and colleagues. Knowledge of HIPPA regulations relating to protected health information. Listen and respond effectively to family questions; resolves family problems to the family's satisfaction; respects all internal and external customers; use a team approach when dealing with families and colleagues; follow up to evaluate family satisfaction; commit to exceeding customer expectations. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient, family, and FNA business information in a professional manner. Ability to establish and develop effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Education & Experience Active Virginia licensure as registered nurse. Minimum five years of experience working in a NICU. Fluent in Spanish, including medical interpreter training. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 20lbs. Ability to use telephone equipment. Manual dexterity needed for using a calculator and computer keyboard. Requires sitting and standing associated with a typical NICU environment.
