Job Overview We are looking for a Senior Transmission Line Engineering Manager to lead and inspire a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment, addressing complex challenges in electric transmission. In this role, you will oversee electric transmission line design projects involving both overhead and underground systems for major utilities nationwide. You will apply industry standards, including NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and others, in the engineering and design of capital and maintenance projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV. Your leadership will be crucial in guiding a team of engineers who handle engineering analyses, PLS-CADD modeling, structure loading calculations, design structures and hardware assemblies, as well as drafting plans, specifications, and procurement documentation across various project phases, including planning, engineering, environmental, permitting, and construction management. As a senior leader, you will manage vital client relationships, contribute to team development, develop proposals, oversee project execution, and drive new business growth. You will have direct report responsibilities, enabling you to shape the growth of an already expanding engineering team. Your ability to communicate clearly, set expectations, and motivate the team will be key to our success. This position is currently tied to a project in the proposal stage, providing the opportunity for you to influence its direction from the outset. We look forward to welcoming forward-thinking and enthusiastic individuals to our team! Key Responsibilities Lead multiple design teams working on various projects for a range of clients. Develop engineers through training, coaching, and mentorship within the Leidos framework. Supervise staff, manage performance reviews, and approve timesheets. Actively participate as a member of the Transmission Line Section leadership team. Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs, including proposal creation and scope definition. Promote a growth mindset to encourage innovative problem-solving for complex client issues. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance departmental resources through innovation and automation. Delegate responsibilities, forecast workload, and engage in recruitment activities to meet growth targets. Ensure high-quality standards in all deliverables through a rigorous quality control process. Build and maintain strong client relationships to promote business development and long-term collaboration. Manage project portfolio health, tracking scope, schedules, and budgets with support from the Leidos Project Management Office. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering; Civil Engineering preferred. 10+ years of experience in electric utility transmission system design, or 8+ years with a Master's degree. Proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE. Ability to work effectively in team settings and independently. Outstanding communication skills, serving as the main contact for clients. Business acumen demonstrated by understanding key project metrics. Willingness to work onsite at Leidos or client offices; periodic travel may be required. A passion for mentoring and developing staff. Desired Qualifications: 2+ years of supervisory experience. M.S. degree in Structural Engineering. Familiarity with TOWER. EIT or PE certification. Knowledge of LPILE, FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and GIS is a plus. Work Location: This role is ideally based in Portland, OR or Seattle, WA, but candidates in the Pacific Northwest may qualify for remote work opportunities.
