Position Description The Sport Scientist, YNT will be responsible for developing and supporting the Youth National Teams and all sport science practices across U.S. Soccer. This individual will commit to the High-Performance department’s mission and strategy to maximize performance across all sport development programs at U.S. Soccer. Working with the High-Performance team, they will contribute to developing and delivering world-class sport science support to the National Teams (NTs). Primary Responsibilities Provide all performance support for YNT as requested by the High-Performance Director and/or the Head of Performance WNT/MNT Travel extensively with YNTs to training camps and games both within the United States and abroad In collaboration with the High-Performance associate, manage camp staffing for the delivery of Sports Science support i.e. YNT Sports Scientists, network professionals, Nutritionists Together with Director of High Performance support the hiring process of Network staff according to the highest US Soccer staffing standards Manage, support and educate Sports Science staff about the US Soccer High Performance practices in order to create world-class High-Performance support in every camp Support and be available for the WNT/MNT High Performance staff as an extra staff member in camp Work closely with the YNT coaches to provide Sports Science education, support and guidance with training planning and implementation of performance processes Work closely with the sports medicine staff to ensure all testing, screening, monitoring and return to play protocols are optimized, delivered, and recorded Lead monitoring, testing, strength and conditioning, and nutrition support to all players within the training camps Track and develop individual and team programs as needed with YNT players both within U.S. Soccer camps and within their club environments Ensure all data is collected and stored correctly in line with U.S. Soccer standards Disseminate all data collected to all required staff and players in line with U.S. Soccer standards Collect pre-camp training information from home clubs and Universities Create and share post-camp training reports with home clubs and Universities Build a strong relationship with clubs and/or academic institutions home and abroad to ensure the bi-lateral sharing of data and information is provided pre- and post-camp Collaborate with Sports Medicine staff on training and injury prevention strategies outside of camp Maintain inventory, supplies, and equipment and evaluate new technology/devices to support player performance Provide performance education to players Assist and develop High Performance practices for the development and support of all sport science and performance staff across U.S Soccer Contribute to the education of staff and coaches within the Federation, and those enrolled in Federation specific qualification pathways Support the department with research within performance and medicine Support the development of internal resources required within the High-Performance Department Support the development of any performance network staff Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Sport & Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology, or a related field Strong knowledge of soccer 1-2 years of experience in managing Sports Science staff Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent certification Minimum of 4 years of practical performance experience within elite sport Able and willing to travel up to 50% of the year Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed Must be able to stand for long durations, squat, bend, lift, carry, and climb ladders Must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 pounds First Aid and CPR certification Capable of working in fast-paced and demanding environments Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission Proficient experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) and Power BI Excellent written and verbal communication combined with a professional demeanor Desired Qualifications PhD/Dr in Sport & Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology, or a related field Passion for soccer Knowledge and experience of performance requirements for adult and youth players Experience working in collaboration with coaches and other support staff Significant experience working with GPS, heart rate, force plates, and other monitoring systems Excellent organizational, data collection, planning, and leadership skills Bilingual (English and Spanish) Thorough institutional knowledge of U.S. Soccer’s mission, goals, technical plan, policies, practices, and procedures Previous experience with a club or national team U.S Soccer is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, citizenship, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, genetic information, military status, political belief, or any other characteristic protected under the law.
