In this role, you’ll work with cutting-edge technology and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional respiratory care. Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, you will provide respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. UPMC Hamot is a 423-bed hospital offering a full complement of inpatient and outpatient services and serves as a regional referral hub and Level II Trauma Center. Supported by a 300-member medical staff, this facility cares for its patients in the UPMC Hamot tradition of quality, health, healing, and education. 

Candidates with 1+ years of experience are eligible for a $20,000sign-on bonus with a 2 year employment commitment!

Candidates will be placed on the appropriate step of the career ladder based on their experience and licensure.

Responsibilities:

\n
• Administer high-risk therapies (e.g., Nitric Oxide, Tracheal Gas Insufflation).
\n
• Perform advanced functions in various settings (OR, ED, Cath Lab, etc.).
\n
• Conduct procedures like bronchoscopy, ABG lab troubleshooting, pulmonary function tests, EEG, EKG, stress testing, and 24-hour monitoring.
\n
• Monitor patient responses to therapy and assist with breathing exercises.
\n
• Maintain patient charts and order equipment repairs.
\n
• Demonstrate procedures to trainees and supervise students.
\n
• Assist in transporting ventilated patients and respond to code situations.
\n
• Evaluate medical orders and interpret clinical data to optimize patient care.
\n
• Set up and operate respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient function.
\n
• Act as Lead Respiratory Therapist when needed, providing problem-solving, training, and technique demonstration.
\n

Education and Experience:

\n
• Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory program.
\n
• Alternatively, 5-7 years of experience or NBRC Certification if no Associate’s degree.
\n
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
\n
• 2 years of respiratory care experience, including 1 year in critical care.
\n
• Complete one approved project annually, starting within 3 months of hire.
\n

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

\n
• CPR certification (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
\n
• Pennsylvania: RCP license and RRT from NBRC.
\n
• Maryland: Respiratory Therapist license.
\n
• Maintain NBRC certification if credentialed after July 1, 2002.
\n

Certifications:

\n
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
\n
• Osteopathic Respiratory Care or Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP).
\n
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
\n
